December 2006

Some of you know about my obsession with musicals (if you don’t: I’m obsessed with musicals, and the passion is almost as longstanding as my love for the redbirds, and is the major reason I live in New York City rather than St. Louis). I’m listening to the cast recording of a great new show called “Spring Awakening” right now (seriously, go see this show - I’ve seen it three times already, so you have some catching up to do!). And hearing the songs out of context of the show for the first time, one of the lyrics made me smile just now:

The stars, too, they tell of spring returning
And summer with another wind that no one yet has known

I’m pretty sure that in the play, Melchior isn’t talking about baseball, but I don’t care. I’m already excited about next season! I also don’t care about the failure to sign any good free agents, because I’ve decided that the next year is going to be a Cardinal victory lap. I’m already excited thinking about how much fun next season’s going to be, and how often I’m going to wear my World Series Champion T-shirt, and how many surprises the season will contain. Let’s hear it for the summer wind we don’t yet know!

… Has me in a merry mood. Other things that have me in a good mood?

  • I took a tour of Yankee Stadium this past Saturday (man, the Yankees love of/obsession with themselves really just cannot be overstated) and there were FOUR other Cardinals fans decked out in 2006 World Champion Gear. Rock! As an aside, the best thing about the Yankee tour was that they actually take you into the locker room. Did you know that Derek Jeter has two lockers, one for himself and one for his fan mail?
  • Just rewatched the ninth innings of Game 5 against the Tigers and Game 7 against the Mets. Seriously, it’s the best procrastination tool EVER.
  • Speaking of the Mets, this weekend I spent a solid 20 minutes torturing a Mets fan about their NLCS loss. I mean, I’m not generally a horrid person, but with Mets fans I just can’t help myself.
  • I ordered some Cardinals gear and it arrived today! I’m going to be so stylin’ at Opening Day next year! (Not that I actually know I’m going to Opening Day but I’m going to try my damndest to get back there. I suppose I shouldn’t get my hopes up, but I do have a few connections here and there that I wouldn’t mind utlizing…)
