quickies

… This is a little too late to be entirely timely, but here goes anyhow. So on the plane back from Houston, I told my roommate about my latest decision:

“Forget it. Enough is enough. I’m moving my blog over to the-cardinals-are-bad.com!”

“Well, if you’re going to do that, I’m going to register but-the-astros-arent-any-better.com.”

(Here’s hoping he was right… Two different chances to win today, so I’ll be glued to the telly from early on. )

First of all, hee hee.

Second: I'm going to see the Mets play the Brewers tonight, which is great, as the seats are free, and fantastic. Problem, of course, is that since the Brew Crew is in our division, I'm going to have to cheer for the Pond Scum. Blast! Anyone think of any way around this, let me know.

We had a whole week of gorgeous weather, and now it’s rainy and dreary again. I wonder if it’s equally dreary in Philly. Bummer.

BUT! It’s sunny in our hearts, right? Happy Opening Day, kids!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

… Because as an early birthday present, they’re splitting the price of Extra Innings with me.

It’s going to be One Blogtastic, Cardscastic, TV-spastic season! Provided that the Cardinals don’t stink up the joint and force me to turn into the Poor Man’s Red Hot Mama. There’s no way I’m up to her level. But nothing can get me down now! I get to see most of the Cardinals games this season! WOO!

As I told Bet, this is my favorite present since Mom bought me four box seat tickets when I was 11 or 12.

A friend of mine who works there linked me here - a nice little photo and audio gallery on the asap site. Enjoy!

Well, I’m going through severe baseball withdrawal at this point. SEVERE. Especially as the news I’m getting from the Cardinals (the firings at KTRS - unfair! I love McGraw Milhaven even though I actually live in NYC and never listen!, the strange un-Jockettyesque signings of the last few weeks, etc) is all stuff I don’t want to think about. Frankly, I’m not even reading about it as much as I normally do. Instead, I’m still wading through this mutha (Just finished the historical segment - man, Bill James is cool).

My solution for the baseball blues? Right here. My personal record is 323.5, which I believe might be a home run in certain ballparks.

I’m trying to stop the sleazy friendster insanity that I’ve been living through for the past 24 hours (honestly, my roommate and I have both been going NUTSO on friendster all day), so I submit the following question.

I’m the proud winner of a Cardinals game download from 2005, courtesy of Bellyscratcher’s awesome Scrabble game. The question is, what should I ask for? I’ve decided for something during the regular season, and I’ve narrowed it down to the possibilities below (because those are the ones that popped into my head right away). I would just use blogpoll, but wordpress.com doesn’t seem to jive with the javascript the poll site requires. So just leave me a comment. Really. I desperately need some input here.

  1. The Cardinals Home Opener; also known as the day the “Goodbye to Busch” insanity started
  2. The 9th Inning Comeback Game against the Reds back in May
  3. The Albert Pujols walkoff home run night; also known as the night Harry Potter came out; also known as the Precursor to the Miracle At Coogan’s Bluff Over the Crawford Boxes on October 17… I was busy waiting in line for the book and missed the whole drama
  4. David Eckstein’s grand slam day, another game which I missed entirely
  5. The final regular-season game at Busch (which of course, has the added bonus of belly and RHM smack to enjoy along with it)

Why didn’t anyone ever tell me about this Busch tribute song?

(My reaction: At first I had no words. And then I realized that this is a joke, right? It MUST be a joke. Please, people, tell me this song is a joke.)

Man, there is just not a lot of baseball going on right now, is there? This is lame.

So here’s what I do when I log onto the computer these days:

  1. Check out the stadium cam and inspect demolition progress.
  2. Go to Bloglines and see what’s now in Cardblog Nation.
  3. Click back to redbirdbrain and ponder whether or not I should update. Usually said pondering is followed almost immediately by a “Nah!”
  4. Go over to Time Warner Cable and try to figure out how to sell roommates on the idea of getting cable for our household so I can watch at least a few games next year. Wonder if I should go really crazy and try to split a DVR, too.
  5. Give up on the idea that we’ll ever have enough money for that. Start surfing the web for other things. You know, movies, books, theatre, sending emails to our friends, and all the other boring things we try to fill our lives with during the offseason. This takes approximately two minutes before I give up and close the computer to do other things (like read or watch a video or annoy my roommates or something of that nature).

And then five or ten minutes later, I start over again at #1.

Sigh.

We got the Cy, we got the MVP!

Nice to see our boy (finally) get what he deserves. It ain’t a ring, but it ain’t bad, either.

Congratulations, Albert!
